Nawalpur, Sept. 24: Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, has said that role of art and culture would be significant for economic prosperity.

Inaugurating the collective exhibition of paintings 'Atmadipan' at Art Gallery of Gaindakot in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta east) today, shared that Gandaki province government would provide the necessary support for the promotion of art and culture.

He mentioned that he was ready to encourage artists, saying the provincial government has been making plans for the preservation of art and culture.

The Chief Minister asked the artists to bring the plan, adding there would be full support of the provincial government on it.

Saying Nawalpur is a fertile land for painting, he opined, "Painting has its own importance. There is no doubt."

hitwan, Sept. 24: Former Home Minister and CPN (UML) politburo member Ram Bahadur Thapa has viewed that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the US-aid project, should be passed with the amendment.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal here today, the former Minister stressed the need of revisions in the document as it had sparked a debate in the political forum.

He took time to say that freedom of expression should be guaranteed in democracy and opinions on the issues of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and MCC should be welcomed. As he claimed, “The provision of investments without revealing a source sets a wrong practice.”

Underline the need of protecting and promoting the national economy and capital, leader Thapa accused the incumbent government of failing to focus on that aspect.

athmandu, Sept 24: The Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed to start the village/municipal convention under its 14th General Convention on the scheduled date.

The village/municipal convention has been scheduled to take place from tomorrow, September 25.

A meeting of the NC office-bearers and ex-office-bearers held today in the party’s parliamentary office, Singha Durbar, decided to commence the village/town convention in 64 districts where the ward convention has been already concluded on September 25, according to party Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma. It means that before Dashain only local-level conventions will be concluded in these 64 districts.

However, in mountainous districts, the district convention will take place within the scheduled date.

Likewise, the meeting held under the chair of Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba agreed to sort out issues of party active membership in the remaining 13 districts first and go for the ward convention.

The ward convention had begun on September 3 and it is yet to be held in 13 districts: eights in Province 2 and Surkhet, Dolpa, Rasuwa, Rupandehi, and Kailali.
